City of Hamedan – The Capital of History and Civilization of Iran

Hamedan, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities and the first capital of the Median Empire, stands as a living symbol of Iranian history and wisdom. Known as “The Capital of History and Civilization of Iran,” it preserves a seamless dialogue between its ancient urban fabric and vibrant modern life.

Among its treasures, the Hegmataneh Ancient Hill, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, reveals layers of civilization dating back to the 7th century BCE. Other landmarks such as the Tomb of Avicenna, the Ganjnameh inscriptions, and the Alavian Dome testify to Hamedan’s enduring cultural stature.

As a proud new member of the League of Historical Cities, Hamedan is honored to share its heritage and collaborate toward preserving historical identity, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening global cultural connections.
